Peter and Lois were concerned about Meg's relationship with Bruce, not because he was way too old for her, but because he was clearly gay. It has been hinted that he may be homosexual throughout the series, such as in " McStroke " when a mustachioed Peter walks by, He has a friend named Jeffrey and in " Road to the North Pole ", he declares in " All I Really Want For Christmas " that he wants to marry Jeffrey.

Every time Bruce appeared, he would have a different job. In "The Cleveland-Loretta Quagmire", he teaches a CPR course at the Quahog. In " Boys Do Cry ", he was a priest of all things.

For five seasons straight, Bruce's name was never mentioned in dialogue, due to lack of attention from the writers. Because of this, Peter officiated a wedding out in the parking lot, where Bruce and Jeffrey were officially pronounced husbands at long last.

In " Petergeist ", he was a ghost-detecting medium. However, he immediately starts dating Dennis afterwards. Starting with " Lois Kills Stewie ", Bruce had a boyfriend named Jeffreywho would only make offscreen appearances up until " Friends of Peter G ", when he appeared onscreen for the first time.

His name was finally mentioned for the first time in " No Chris Left Behind ", when Principal Shepherd finally mentioned it in dialogue. Meg and Bruce, despite Bruce being gay, have a unique and enduring friendship, even progressing to a dating and engagement storyline.

Bruce rarely appeared at all in the first three seasons of the show, but has become a recurring character since the show returned from cancellation. As a result, Bruce is now a single parent.
